In Abbotsford, the federal government reiterated its support for business technological innovation, with MP Ed Fast meeting nine local companies benefiting from pilot programs with the National Research Council. Through the Industrial Research Assistance Program and Digital Technology Adoption Pilot Program, over $840,000 has been distributed to Abbotsford businesses. Fast emphasized the need for improved global competitiveness and business investment, noting Canada's lower ranking in commercializing innovation compared to countries like Israel and Germany. Despite having around one million small and medium enterprises, only a small fraction are exporting, mainly to the U.S., a situation the government aims to change to bolster Canada's status as a great trading nation.
